In The Heart of Old Dartmouth, sits this charming home, a designated heritage property. It is filled with nostalgia, but at the same time, offers the comforts of present day living. From the James Street side, there is a view of the Halifax Skyline. (Inside, this view is also present from the second storey windows.) There is a private back yard, rather a courtyard effect, protected from the winds. Located off of the kitchen, this is an easy place to barbeque as well as entertain.
INTERIOR:
First an exterior PORCH protects from the weather, and inside is a welcoming FOYER/ HALLWAY: plenty of room to take coats and settle into this gracious home
To the right is a large bright room, which the present owners use as a FAMILY/TV ROOM. There is the large bay window and recently, in 2006, a French door was installed to allow more natural light and lovely breeze in the summer.
To the left is the LIVING ROOM with fireplace and wood stove insert. Again, there is the bay window.
Beyond the living room is the OFFICE annex. Here, the home worker has privacy and light, yet is near to the family workings. Historically, this was the architectural studio of William Roue, the designer of the famous Bluenose schooner.
A formal DINING ROOM is perfectly situated off the main hall. And of course adjacent to the kitchen. One could easily seat ten here or entertain many more in a casual setting, “your choice”.
The KITCHEN, installed by the present owners, is worth special note.
Snaidero of Italy by design, it features clean lines and custom touches. Note the two level island, the pot lights and the large, newer window over the sink. Adjacent to this is a roomy, cozy conversation area, a place to catch the evening news or enjoy the Sunday paper. From here, as well, is easy access to the delightful back yard.
NOTE: “The back stair case”!! A reminder of years past, this still adds to the function of the home. It leads to a smaller bedroom on the second level and is surely popular with teens. Of course, it would be perfect for a “Nanny”.

Main Floor LAUNDRY
Special Note: Three ornate lighting fixtures, recently installed, can be noticed in the living room, family room and dining room. An art deco fixture in the main hallway is original to the home.
SECOND FLOOR:
Here, you will find FOUR BEDROOMS. The MASTER is of excellent size with great closets and a view of Halifax Skyline. The second and third bedrooms are generous as well. The fourth, as mentioned connects to the first floor via the back staircase.
The MAIN BATH has been renovated and includes a “Jacuzzi” tub and a stand alone glass enclosed shower~~very nice!
REMARKS:
This home is absolutely a fantastic family home and hosts gatherings well. The layout “flows and goes” with room for everyone. Note the hardwood floors almost throughout, most of which are original.
